HOW DO STUDENTS' DECISION-MAKING ABILITY IN SOLVING OPEN-ENDED PROBLEMS?

نویسندگان

چکیده

An open-ended problem in learning mathematics is a with more than one answer or method of solving. In solving problems mathematics, the abilities students must use decision-making ability. Each student has variety capacities, so this study aims to determine students' mathematics. The type research used descriptive qualitative research. subjects were four different numbers correct answers working on problems. Data collection was carried out using tests and interviews. results showed that (1) ability subject who correctly for both complete because they fulfill all indicators, can identify goals, make decisions, evaluate determination, present remember between things known related decisions have been taken correctly; (2) wrong number two incomplete only fulfilled less able decision problem, correct. Mathematics teachers should often reinforce practice operating integers it prerequisite at middle high school levels.

How do students’ learning behaviors evolve in Scaffolded Open-Ended Learning Environments?

Metacognition and self-regulation are important components for developing effective learning in the classroom and beyond, but novice learners often lack these skills. Betty’s Brain, an open-ended computer-based learning environment, helps students develop metacognitive strategies as they learn science topics. In order to better understand and improve the effect of adaptive scaffolding on studen...

Coherence Over Time: Understanding Day-to-Day Changes in Students' Open-Ended Problem Solving Behaviors

Understanding students’ self-regulated learning (SRL) behaviors in open-ended learning environments (OELEs) is an on-going area of research. Whereas OELEs facilitate use of SRL processes, measuring them reliably is difficult. In this paper, we employ coherence analysis, a recently-developed approach to analyzing students’ problem solving behaviors in OELEs, to study how student behaviors change...

How do Somatic Markers Feature in Decision Making

Several recent criticisms of the somatic marker hypothesis (SMH) identify multiple ambiguities in the way it has been formulated by its chief proponents. Here we provide evidence that this hypothesis has also been interpreted in various different ways by the scientific community. Our diagnosis of this problem is that SMH lacks an adequate computational-level account of practical decision making...

Anticipating Computational Demands when Solving Time-Critical Decision-Making Problems

An agent embedded in a dynamic environment may need to respond in a timely manner to sequences of events outside the agent's control. By anticipating computational demands and allocating processing time accordingly the agent can avoid costly delays often arising from trying to respond to a dynamic environment with high-complexity decision procedures. Deliberation scheduling, the process of allo...

Solving Sequential Decision-making Problems under Virtual Reality Simulation System

A large class of problems of sequential decision-making can be modeled as Markov or Semi-Markov Decision Problems, which can be solved by classical methods of dynamic programming. However, the computational complexity of the classical MDP algorithms, such as value iteration and policy iteration, is prohibitive and will grow intractably with the size of problems. Furthermore, they require for ea...
